PCB Suspends Haider Ali Amid Ongoing Criminal Investigation in UK

PCB Suspends Haider Ali is under investigation in England over an alleged case of sexual molestation. The 24-year-old was arrested by Greater Manchester Police on August 3 and later released on bail. At the time of his arrest, Haider was playing for the Pakistan Shaheens in a one-day match at Beckenheim. He has represented Pakistan in two ODIs and 35 T20 internationals.
Following the arrest, the Pakistan Cricket Board (PCB) immediately suspended Haider. In a statement, the PCB confirmed it had been informed of the ongoing investigation. This reportedly relates to an incident during the Pakistan Shaheens’ recent tour of England.
The Pakistan Cricket Board (PCB) said it is providing Haider Ali with legal assistance to ensure his rights are protected during the investigation.
The board stated it respects the legal process in the United Kingdom. It allows the case to proceed without interference. As a result, Haider has been placed under provisional suspension with immediate effect, pending the investigation’s outcome.
Pakistan Cricketer Haider Ali Arrested in the UK on Rape Suspicion, Suspended by PCB
PCB Suspends Haider Ali has been arrested by Greater Manchester Police on suspicion of rape and released on bail pending further investigation. The 24-year-old, who was touring England with the Pakistan Shaheens, the national ‘A’ team, remains in the UK.
The Shaheens squad has since flown to Australia for a multi-team T20 series. Haider, who was initially set to be part of that tour, has been replaced by allrounder Mohammad Faiq.
According to Greater Manchester Police, the arrest followed a report made on 4 August 2025 of a rape allegedly committed on 23 July at a location in Manchester. “The man has since been bailed pending further enquiries. The victim is being supported by officers,” police said in a statement.
Haider was reportedly taken into custody in Beckenham. The Shaheens were playing the final match of their five-game England tour. He had participated in all five matches, including those on 22 and 25 July, the period between which the alleged offence occurred. In the UK, a conviction for rape carries a maximum sentence of life imprisonment.
On Thursday, the Pakistan Cricket Board (PCB) confirmed that Haider Ali is under criminal investigation in the United Kingdom. Announced his suspension until the case concludes. The board said it “fully respects the legal procedures and processes of the UK” and is providing the player with legal assistance.
Haider, 24, has represented Pakistan in two ODIs and 35 T20Is. He first drew attention as a hard-hitting batter during the 2020 Pakistan Super League with Peshawar Zalmi, scoring 239 runs at a strike rate of over 157. Later that year, he made his international debut in a T20I in Manchester, scoring a 33-ball 54 to help Pakistan to a five-run win.
Despite flashes of brilliance, Haider’s career has been marked by inconsistency, leading to frequent omissions from the national side. The ongoing Shaheens tour had been viewed as a chance to revive his international career. Particularly given Pakistan’s current preference for an aggressive T20 batting approach.
